History of Venetian Plaster

About Venetian Plaster
Simply stated Venetian Plaster is an ancient building material which originates with lime and marble. Lime that can be brought up to a high polish, low polish, matte finish, and smooth to the touch. It can also have a granular texture.
The term Venetian Plaster also can refer to the method of application. Natural lime plasters have been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians and peoples of Antiquities. Originally, they were strictly used for the protection of structures. The Venetians took it to another level. They added natural pigment to add a decorative use both interior and Exterior. The plasters that we use in our business are authentic Italian plasters.

Kevin Ansell is certified in using ARTENOVA PRODUCTS. Here’s some information on the company and products.
The plasters are ARTENOVA by SAFRA. SAFRA is a family business started in 1961, in Verona, Italy. When using SAFRA Plasters, you are buying family traditions handed down from generation to generation. No other company in the world is more committed to producing true authentic Italian Plasters that will last a lifetime.

The main mission of ARTENOVA was to make known to an always expanding audience the wall decoration systems which were used in all of the Italian art cities, and above all in Venice during the years of its greatest splendor. These are the aspects, which make them so unique in the world.
That mission led SAFRA to the rediscovery of effects and techniques typical of Italy’s decorative past. These rediscoveries include both famous (Venetian Stucco) and less famous (Stucco Mantovano) products and application techniques developed through the centuries, whose virtues are now stirring new interest in the Architectural community worldwide.

In keeping with company philosophy SAFRA complimented its line of traditional mineral finishes with a line of authentic earth colorants based on earth pigments and water. These authentic colorants are therefore unlike most of the pigments normally available on the market, which are called Earths (Terre) but are actually based on mineral oxides rather than true earth.
Products like AQUARELLO, a water-based stain, perfectly resistant to graffiti’s and VENEZIANO, a breathable synthetic Venetian plaster resisting over 50,000 brush strokes, which is retouchable and washable with virtually any detergent, thus ideal for high-end public areas (hotel lobbies, corporate buildings etc.)
